Audio clip on Karnataka ‘leadership change’ goes viral, BJP state president says fake

An audio clip, in which BJP’s Karnataka president Nalin Kumar Kateel had purportedly hinted at a possible change in leadership, went viral on social media on Sunday amid discussions about replacing Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa. However, Kateel termed the audio as fake and denied any connection with the leaked audio clip.

According to a report in Indian ExpressIn the 47-second audio clip, a voice like Kateel is heard telling an unidentified person in Tulu dialect, “There is going to be a definite change in leadership, there will be a completely new team.”

It is heard in the audio clip that the party’s Delhi office will decide on who will be the new Chief Minister. “There is no local candidate here. It is being decided in Delhi,” he says.

The audio clip has surfaced at a time when Karnataka is in the grip of speculation about a possible change of leadership.

Yediyurappa on Saturday met BJP national president JP Nadda and Amit Shah and rubbished rumors of their resignations, saying no one asked for it and there was no discussion on change of leadership in the state.

“No one asked me for my resignation. No such situation occurred. There was no discussion on change of leadership in the state”, Yediyurappa had said after meeting JP Nadda in New Delhi.

“I have discussed in detail about the development of the party in the state and the country. He has given me many instructions. He has a good opinion of me. I will work for the party and come back to power in Karnataka.

Later, after meeting Amit Shah, the CM said that the Home Minister asked him to work hard in the state and come back to power. Yediyurappa said, “He (Shah) told me to work hard to come back to power in Karnataka and we should win more seats in the Lok Sabha elections.”
