Attack on Intelligence Headquarters of Punjab Police: Attack from 80 meters away, suspicious car also seen; terror attack fears

The attack on the headquarters of the Intelligence Wing in Mohali of Punjab Police is also being investigated from the terror angle. Due to the rocket propelled grenade (RPG) attack, senior officers are engaged in the investigation. Preliminary investigation has also revealed that the attack was carried out from outside the headquarters building.

According to the police, the attack took place from about 80 meters away. A case has been registered against the unknown assailant. After this, the intelligence is scrutinizing the CCTV footage, mobile tower in the area. Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party’s National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has said that the Mohali blast is a cowardly act by those who want to disturb the peace of Punjab.

The police have seen a car moving outside at the time of the attack. There is a possibility of attack from this car. After the attack, this car disappeared from there. There are reports of 2 suspects in it. For this, the parking in front of the headquarters is likely to be used.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also become active after this attack. A team of NIA is coming to Punjab Intelligence Office. He will also check it. The concern of the police is more because such weapons have been used in Afghanistan. Apart from this, there is talk of their use in the Russia-Ukraine war as well.

The windows of the building were shattered by the attack, although no one was injured.

At the same time, DGP VK Bhavra said that not much damage has been done due to this attack. He definitely said that this attack has been done from a short distance. After this attack, the whole of Punjab has been put on high alert. Strictness has been increased on the border of Mohali and adjoining Chandigarh. There is continuous checking going on here.

After the attack, the items kept in the rooms of the headquarters of the Intelligence Wing of the police were scattered.

The attack on the Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali took place at 7.45 pm on Monday. By then it was a holiday. From there all the big officers and employees had gone home. When the attack took place, only the night duty team was present. There was no major casualty due to this. There is also a private hospital and school around the headquarters. Next to it is the office of the SSP of Mohali.

A self-propelled rocket was recovered from the spot after the attack on the Intelligence Headquarters.

CM Bhagwant Mann swung into action as soon as he came to know about the attack. He has summoned a report in this regard from DGP VK Bhavra. At present, the police is getting the weapon checked. For this the help of forensic experts is being taken. At the same time, yesterday the police called the Bomb Disposal Squad and got it investigated.

The investigation team has seized the weapon used in the attack and sealed it.

Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) can be used to detonate any tank, armored vehicle, helicopter or aircraft. Its range is 700 meters. A rocket-propelled grenade is fired on the shoulder. It is a missile weapon that launches rockets equipped with explosive warheads. Most RPGs can be carried by one person, meaning it can be operated by a single person. It was recently used during the Taliban war in Afghanistan.
