Atiq Ahmed’s Son Asad Killed In Jhansi Encounter: CM Yogi Adityanath Praises UP STF, Reviews Law And Order In State

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday praised the state police and Special Task Force (STF) officials after gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed’s fugitive son Asad and his accomplice Ghulam were killed in the Umesh Pal murder case. The encounter took place in Jhansi on Thursday. After gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad was killed in an encounter, CM Yogi lauded the state’s police officers and chaired a high-level meeting on ‘law and order’. CM Yogi praised the team of Special Task Force (STF) involved in the shootout.


CM Yogi gave information about Jhansi encounter


According to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office, Yogi was informed about the encounter by the Principal Secretary (Home). A report was also placed before the Chief Minister on this whole matter. “After the encounter of former MP Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad and his associate, CM Yogi Adityanath took a meeting regarding law and order. CM Yogi praised the UP STF as well as the DGP, Special DG Law & Order and the entire team,” the CMO said in a statement.

The statement said, ‘Principal Secretary Home Sanjay Prasad informed the Chief Minister about the encounter. A report was placed before the Chief Minister on this entire matter.

Aide Asad killed in encounter in Jhansi


Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force in Jhansi. The police gave this information on Thursday. Asad was killed along with Ghulam, both wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case of Prayagraj. There was a reward of five lakh rupees on each of these. Special Director General (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said, “Asad and Ghulam were wanted in Prayagraj’s Umesh Pal murder case and carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh each. They were killed in an encounter with the UP STF team.”

The encounter took place on a day when Ahmed was produced in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Prayagraj in a murder case and was sent to 14-day judicial custody.

How UP STF tracked Asad?

Visuals show two bodies lying near a motorcycle at the site of the alleged encounter. Later an ambulance took them away. STF officials said Asad and Ghulam were on the run after the killing of Umesh Pal on February 24. Several teams of STF were deployed to nab them. Officials said that on Thursday, they were trying to escape on a motorcycle when they were stopped by a team of STF in Jhansi.

UP police said, “Foreign-made sophisticated weapons have been recovered from the accused.” The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force team was led by Deputy Superintendents of Police Navendu Kumar and Vimal Kumar. “Mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad and Ghulam’s son Maqsudan, both wanted in Prayagraj’s Umesh Pal murder case and carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh each; Martyred in encounter with UPSTF team led by DSP Navendu and DSP Vimal in Jhansi. State-of-the-art foreign-made weapons recovered, UP STF said.



Atiq Ahmed, Ashraf sent to judicial custody for 14 days


Meanwhile, a Prayagraj court on Thursday sent gangster-turned-politician Ateeq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf to 14-day judicial custody in the Umesh Pal murder case. The two were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Dinesh Gautam at 11.10 am amid heavy security and remained in the court for over two hours during the arguments.

Advocate Vikram Singh, counsel for Umesh Pal’s wife Jaya, said that Ahmed and Ashraf alias Khalid Azim will be kept in Prayagraj’s Naini Jail till April 26.
Singh said that the arguments on his application for police custody are yet to be completed.

Message for criminals: UP Deputy Chief Minister


Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya lauded the State Special Task Force on the encounter of Assad and his associate and termed the action as a “message to criminals”. Speaking to ANI, Maurya said, “I congratulate UP STF for this action. Police retaliated when they (Asad and his associate Ghulam) fired at them.” “It is a message to criminals that this is new India. It is the Yogi government in UP, not the Samajwadi Party which is in power, which gave protection to criminals,” he said.



Earlier in a tweet, Maurya said that the killers of Umesh Pal and the police personnel had to bear the consequences. “Congratulations to UP STF, this was the fate of the killers of Umesh Pal Advocate and police personnel!” The Deputy Chief Minister tweeted in Hindi.

Umesh Pal’s family thanked the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh


In February this year, the family of Umesh Pal, who was killed in broad daylight in Prayagraj, thanked the Chief Minister and said that this is a tribute to the slain lawyer. Umesh Pal’s mother said, “I thank CM Yogi ji for doing justice and appeal to him to give us justice even further. We have full faith in CM Shanti Devi.”
