The Bengal Chief Minister also accused the CPM and BJP of orchestrating the vandalism at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata on Thursday

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said that attempts are being made to cover the truth about the alleged rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor at a state-run hospital in Kolkata last week.

Banerjee stressed that while her government is committed to uncovering the truth, some groups are spreading misinformation to mislead the public.

“We want the truth to come out, but some quarters are spreading lies to mislead people. Attempts are being made to hide the truth by circulating fake news on social media. We condemn these activities. We want the culprits to be punished,” she said during a protest rally demanding justice for the woman doctor.

Banerjee led a protest rally from Moulali to Dorina Crossing in Kolkata. TMC activists accompanying her chanted slogans demanding capital punishment for the accused, a stance already endorsed by the Chief Minister.

The Bengal Chief Minister also accused the CPM and BJP of orchestrating the vandalism at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata on Thursday.

“I know that CPM and BJP vandalised RG Kar Medical College and Hospital…They went there at 12-1 am in the night, the video shows that CPM took the DYFI flag and BJP took the national flag,” she stated.

A group of approximately 40 people entered the hospital and vandalised the emergency department, nursing unit, and medicine store in the early hours of Thursday. They also damaged CCTV cameras and ransacked a stage where junior doctors were protesting against the alleged rape and murder, demanding better workplace security.

Further questioning the BJP and CPM, Banerjee asked how many teams they had sent to Manipur, Hathras, or Unnao when the alleged rape incidents happened.

“How many teams did BJP and CPM send when the incident happened in Manipur? How many teams were sent to Hathras, Unnao?… CPM and BJP should not threaten me, we have not come without contesting elections..,” she questioned.

‘West Bengal Witnessing A Sham’: Amit Malviya

Reacting to Banerjee’s protest march, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya posted on X, “Home Minister Mamata Banerjee is leading a protest march against Health Minister Mamata Banerjee to pressurise Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to find out the culprits, responsible for rape and murder in RG Kar Medical College & Hospital and punish them.”

Sukanta Majumdar Detained During Protest

West Bengal BJP president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar was detained by Kolkata Police on Friday during a protest against the rape and murder incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Speaking to the media from inside the police van, Majumdar slammed West Bengal CM, claiming that while Mamata Banerjee can hold rallies without needing permission, the BJP faces excessive bureaucratic obstacles.

“All the rules seem to apply only to the BJP,” he said.

Majumdar also called for the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal, stating, “Such a person cannot remain Kolkata Police Commissioner. He should take responsibility for this incident and resign immediately.”

Mamata Should Stop Doing Politics: Assam CM

Assam Chief Minister Himant Biswa Sarma on Friday lashed out at his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee, asking her to “stop indulging in politics” over the incident.

“The incident that happened in Kolkata is very sad and the people of West Bengal and the entire country are in a state of shock. Mamata didi should avoid doing politics over the matter. She should focus on finding out who was behind the incident and fixing the accountability,” Sarma stated.
