Asus Chromebook CX1 Review: A reliable laptop at the cost of an Android phone

Chromebooks – Toned down laptops that offer an Android-like experience, have gained momentum since 2020. With the COVID-19 pandemic sending students and working professionals indoors for 1.5-2 years, Chromebooks found a new market, as did many students. Head up this range to get a more laptop-like experience than a tablet. While Chromebooks are said to offer very limited usefulness compared to our traditional laptops, they also cost a fraction of the cost of Windows laptops, making them ideal when looking for a device for basic work/study purposes. There is a good option to consider. now i am using AsusLatest Chromebook, the CX1101 from the past few days, and I’ll tell you how this Chromebook performs and whether or not you should buy it. let’s take a look:

Design

In terms of design, Asus Chromebook CX1101 Looks like a thin and light laptop. It has a nice aluminum finish with a sleek profile. Asus says that it is made of military-grade material, but there is no way of testing it. The keyboard on the laptop seems reasonable. There is enough key travel and the keys provide good and attractive feedback. The display area has thick bezels which, in my personal opinion, take away a bit from the otherwise good design.

In terms of ports, there are two USB-A ports, two USB Type-C ports, a microSD card slot for expandable storage, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The laptop is also super lightweight and weighs just over a kilo – a good job in terms of design.

Display

Asus Chromebook CX1101 comes with an 11.6-inch HD display. Now, to put it in one sentence, this display will look dull and low quality if you’re coming straight from a Windows laptop or MacBook. Having said that, the Asus Chromebook CX1101’s display isn’t that bad. Watching videos and content is a great experience and better than any day smartphone or budget tablet. However, if you use it to type or edit photos, it’s quite small and doesn’t have the best color accuracy.

performance and battery

Now this laptop does not do anything special in terms of performance. Like you wouldn’t use a Chromebook for gaming or for other heavy tasks like video editing. However, for basic typing and content viewing, it works just fine. The laptop is powered by a dual core Intel Celeron N4020 CPU paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.

Now, handling tasks is no big deal for the Asus Chromebook CX1. It doesn’t run any Windows-compatible apps like Microsoft Word or Excel, but there are alternatives like Google Docs and Google Sheets. While 4GB of RAM may seem low for a laptop, Chromebooks mostly use it to run Chrome as are most apps like YouTube, Gmail, Google Docs, and Chrome extensions on Chrome OS. However, some apps take a smartphone-like aspect ratio, such as Disney+ Hotstar opened in a slim vertical profile.

Sometimes, it gave me a lag of a few seconds while doing normal things like watching videos or typing content, and it takes a while to connect to Wi-Fi after startup. Beyond that, I didn’t experience any slowdowns or lag during my brief time with the Asus Chromebook CX1101.

One of the coolest things here is that there are apps (or Chrome extensions) for most things, so it’s a very convenient option for students. The Asus Chromebook CX1101 does what it sets out to do well enough.

Verdict – Fair Chromebook Experience on a Budget

So the Asus Chromebook CX1101 is a proper Chromebook laptop. It does all your basic tasks like reading, researching, typing, watching videos and editing photos. The laptop runs on Chrome OS, and most of the apps run as Chrome extensions which work perfectly. The laptop wasn’t slow or laggy during my use, and the design is great – other than the thick bezels. At just Rs 18,990, the Asus Chromebook CX1101 is right up there in the affordable mid-range Android smartphone segment, making it a super deal for all types of users.
