Assembly election result updates: Modi, Shah, Yogi among stars for Uttarakhand CM’s oath ceremony

Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President JP Nadda, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Himachal Pradesh counterpart Jai Ram Thakur will attend the function on Modi’s side, he said.

Dhami and Pramod Sawant will be chief ministers of Uttarakhand and Goa respectively when the BJP on Monday weighed in in favor of youth, consistency and ability to perform under pressure ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“The development of the state will get a boost and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s grand vision for the development of Uttarakhand will be turned into reality,” Dhami said. However, the youngest chief minister of the state, 46-year-old Dhami was the clear favorite for the top post despite losing his Khatima seat, which he represented twice in 2012 and 2017, whatever the leader is about to get a second term. Doubtful, he was terminated. The BJP’s central leadership opted for stability in the state, which saw three chief ministers in four months in 2021.

Sawant has been rewarded for overcoming the anti-incumbency wave and leading the party to victory despite the resignations of some prominent personalities, including Manohar Parrikar’s son, over ticket allocation. Under his leadership of the state, the BJP put up its second best performance – winning 20 seats. The BJP had secured a simple majority in 2012 under Parrikar’s leadership when it won 21 seats.

Meanwhile, the stage is set for the grand swearing-in ceremony of the second Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh on March 25 at the sprawling Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in the state capital. According to sources, an important meeting of BJP MLAs will be held on Thursday evening to elect the party leader, in which Union Home Minister Amit Shah and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das will participate as observers and co-observers.

He said on Tuesday that the formalities to elect Yogi Adityanath as the new chief minister would be completed in the meeting. He said that Shah would also consider the formation of the ministry in a meeting with the newly elected MLAs.

On the other hand, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Thursday. This is going to be Mann’s first meeting with Modi after taking oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab.

Sources said that Mann will meet Modi on Thursday at 11 am. In a tweet in Hindi, Mann said, “After taking over as the Chief Minister of Punjab, I have sought time for a courtesy call on the Prime Minister and the Home Minister and to discuss issues related to Punjab.”

Mann was sworn in as Chief Minister on March 16 at Khatkar Kalan, the native village of great freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) Nagar district of Punjab. Modi had congratulated him on becoming the Chief Minister of Punjab.
