Assam: Nine killed when autorickshaw collides with truck in Karimganj Guwahati News – Times of India

All the victims, from Longai Tea Estate in the district, were returning after attending Chhath Puja.

Silchar: Nine passengers, all teenagers, died on the spot when an autorickshaw-board truck rammed into a truck at Baithakhal on NH-8 in Assam’s Karimganj district on Thursday morning.
All the victims are residents of Longai tea garden in the district and were returning after attending Chhath puja.
A senior police officer in Karimganj said, “The autorickshaw coming from Lowairpoa in Patharkandi block, collided with a cement-laden truck on its way to Tripura, broke down in the accident.
Nine passengers died on the spot in the accident, while the autorickshaw driver was seriously injured. He has been admitted to Karimganj Civil Hospital.
“The bodies of the victims, all in the age group of 12-17, have been kept at Patharkandi Government Hospital. They will be sent to Karimganj Civil Hospital for post-mortem,” a police official said.
In protest against the accident, the local people blocked the NH-8 connecting Assam with Tripura.
