GUWAHATI: Temples in Assam are gearing up for the return of devotees as the new government SOP issued on Tuesday allows those who have been fully vaccinated to enter places of worship.

The Kamakhya temple management welcomed the decision to reopen the temple as thousands of people across the state remained jobless for months due to the COVID restrictions.

The new SOP will be applicable from 5 am on Wednesday till further orders. There will now be a curfew in the entire state from 7 pm to 5 am.
All workplaces, business and commercial establishments, dine-in restaurants, hotels, resorts, dhabas and other eateries, restaurants, takeaway of food items from dhabas, sales counters and showrooms of cold storage and godowns, shops dealing with grocery, fruits and vegetables, Dairy, milk booths and animal feed will remain open till 6 pm.
In another major move, offline classes for the final year of medical, nursing and engineering courses have been allowed. However, Mahant said that both teachers and students should get vaccinated.
“Physical classes of final year of undergraduate / post graduate engineering / medical colleges, GNM, Nursing courses and Aeronautical Engineering College may be allowed to start with fully vaccinated students,” read the SOP.
Assemblies and gatherings in open or closed spaces are allowed up to a maximum of 200 people (open spaces) and up to 50% of the hall capacity or 200 fully immunized persons, whichever is less in closed spaces.
Mahant informed that at airports, passengers who have received both the doses of vaccines and who have a ‘recent Covid negative certificate’ will not have to undergo the test again.
For works relating to National or International days, the maximum capacity of the hall will be up to 50%. Also, public gatherings of up to 25 persons are allowed for weddings and funeral events. But cinemas and theater halls will remain closed.
All government servants, who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, have been asked to attend the office. Private sector entities have been given the freedom to decide on attendance rules.
