Assam: Ex-MLA Among 3 Arrested Under UAPA for ‘Conspiring to Form New Terror Group’ in Bodoland

The two other persons arrested with him were Bodoland Jatiya Suraksha Manch working president Daorao Dekhrab Narzary and Bodoland Contractor Association president Bikram Daimary.

Assam Police has arrested former MLA Hitesh Basumatary along with two others for their alleged involvement in attempts to form a terrorist group. According to the police, the former MLA has been booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Basumatary and Daimary were remanded to police custody for five days after being produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Kokrajhar. Narzri has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days, the official said.

The development comes at a time when the BPF-led Hagrama Mohilary has met top RSS leaders in New Delhi and is trying to re-establish its ties with the BJP, both at the Center and in the state.
