In the police complaint, Assam Congress media department president Manjit Mahanta said Ajmal had made unparliamentary statements against APCC president Bhupen Kumar Bora and 10 other political parties.

The Assam Congress on Wednesday lodged an FIR against All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal for making derogatory statements against the party.

Last week, the state Congress held an 11-party meeting in Guwahati, urging all like-minded opposition parties to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The AIUDF, led by perfume baron Ajmal, was not invited to the meeting.

“We are enclosing herewith a clipping of the May 3 issue of Amar Asom in which his statements have been published. Badruddin Ajmal, MP and President AIUDF, is continuously trying to malign the image of our language, culture etc. and also trying to weaken the social fabric of the Assamese society.
