Ashwini Vaishnav: Rajya Sabha MP with many salutes gets ministerial post in cabinet reshuffle

A bureaucrat, MBA, technical expert, politician and now a minister. Ashwini Vaishnav joined the Prime Minister Narendra ModiTeam with the responsibilities of Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Communications and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Wednesday. A 1994-batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre, Vaishnav rose to prominence through his meticulous service when the state was hit by a super cyclone in 1999. In 2012, he left the corporate sector and set up his own company which operated in Gujarat. Vaishnav, who has held leadership roles in leading global companies such as General Electric and Siemens, holds an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and an M.Tech from IIT Kanpur.

Vaishnav was born in Jodhpur and completed his education from the state, earning a BTech degree in Electronics and Communication. He then obtained his M.Tech from IIT Kanpur, before cracking the IAS in 1994 with an all-India rank of 27.
