Ashok Gehlot reports spike in Covid cases in China, asks government to control passenger movement

new Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday expressed concern over the rapidly rising cases of COVID-19 in China and suggested the central government to consider controlling the movement of passengers from China. Gehlot tweeted, “There has been a rapid increase in the cases of Kovid in China. When there has been a decrease in the cases of Kovid across the world, the increase in cases in China is worrying as the virus emerged from there two years ago.”

In view of the situation in China, the central government should consider controlling the movement from there. Learning from the last three Covid waves, there should be no negligence,” he said

China locks down 17 million people in Shenzhen city as COVID cases rise

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in China, the country has resorted to a lockdown to contain the spread of the virus. On Sunday, the local government of Shenzhen city announced a strict lockdown after the city recorded 66 infections in a day, news agency AFP reported.

The city is a tech hub with about 17 million people living in it. It is also home to tech giants such as Huawei and Tencent. The administration has asked residents to stay at home with only one family member to collect essential items every two days.

Recently, China has closed non-essential services as well as schools and even restaurants. According to AFP, the lockdown and suspension of transport services will last till March 20.

China has been facing the biggest jump in Covid cases since the early days of the pandemic as cases doubled and reached 3,400 on Sunday.

“If prevention and control are not strengthened in a timely and decisive manner, it can easily become large-scale community transmission,” Shenzhen health official Lin Hancheng told a briefing on Sunday.

In the last 24 hours, 2,503 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in India and 27 people have died. There has been a decline of 19.6 per cent in COVID cases. A total of 42,993,494 infections have been reported so far. As far as active cases are concerned, their number is 36,168. A total of 42,441,449 people and 4,377 people have been cured so far in the last 24 hours. So far a total of 515,877 people have died due to infection. There have been 4,61,318 vaccinations in the last 24 hours.
