Ashnoor Kaur on scoring 94% in CBSE: Wanted to set an example that actors are intelligent too

CBSE has declared the results for class 12th students this year. Earlier, the board exams were officially canceled coronavirus But the students gave their practicals. And now that the results have come, actress Ashnoor Kaur is on the seventh sky. A commerce student, Ashnoor has passed the school with brilliant complexion by securing 94% marks. We spoke to an excited Ashnoor about what is going on in the family right now and she tells us, “I am feeling very happy. This year, I didn’t take up any long term acting project like a daily soap because I had to focus on my board exams. I wanted to do better than what I did in class 10th. It wasn’t that I didn’t work during this time. I had several small projects on the line. Everything was online so it was tough for us, but somehow I managed and I am proud of my achievement.”

On what affected her school life in the final year and persevered during this time, Ashur shared, “This is something we all are experiencing for the first time and there was a lot of uncertainty. We did not know how the final result would be declared. We had to give our best in whatever we were doing. I would like to appreciate this initiative of CBSE, in which the performance of previous years has been added to tally the results of class 12th. It was a very thoughtful gesture. I wanted to enjoy school life in the final year, but it didn’t happen. I was disappointed. But the online classes made it convenient for me as I could study while traveling as well.”

Ashur also recalled the time when he checked his board results online and had butterflies in his stomach till the moment of truth. “I was expecting my result to be good. I worked very hard. I had given my 100% in all my life and practicals because I didn’t want to disappoint myself. I had set expectations. I wanted to make my parents proud. I was very nervous before the result. I didn’t check my 11th class and I didn’t know how all this would count in the final result. My parents were with me when I checked it online. We all screamed in excitement. It was a nice family moment. I recently got a Shih Tzu puppy and he has started licking me too.”

The festivities will continue for the Kaur family, with Ashnoor starting shortlisting colleges before she wants to apply for her undergraduate course. “We want to go on vacation. But our options are limited as we have to look for pet friendly resorts. We had an intimate celebration. I cheated on my diet. I will now apply for colleges. I want to do BMM (Bachelor in Mass Media) because I want to gain knowledge in my field also. I am also interested in directing and would like to learn filmmaking as well. I want to enjoy my college life. These years of one’s life are unforgettable. I will continue acting. I want to study in Mumbai only. There is an adrenaline rush and I am looking forward to this new phase of my life.”

With her stupendous score in the 12th board, Ashnoor challenges the common belief that people have about actors- ‘they are not good at studies’. She says, “I wanted to set an example. Many people came to me and said you have proved us wrong that actors cannot be intelligent. They are smart. It’s about your passion, your talents, and your choices. It is not related to mental ability and intelligence.”

On returning to acting, Ashnoor says offers have been flooded, but she is on a break from TV and waiting for the right role. “I am focusing on grooming myself at the moment. I am transitioning from a teenager to adulthood. I want to work on myself and come back with an adult role. Platform doesn’t matter to me. I am focusing more on the content,” she indicated.
