Ashes 2021-22: Ricky Ponting suggests injured David Warner substitute for second Test

Australia find themselves in a dominant position in the first Ashes Test against England. So much so that Warner’s injury does not bother the team management. The explosive opener hit the rib cage of Ben Stokes. Overall, he was hit twice, and is likely not to bat in the second Test. We must not forget that he did not take the field on the third day at the Gabba. Meanwhile, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has a choice. Usman Khawaja.

“If Warner can’t play, I think it’s probably Khawaja who bats and opens. Although he hasn’t done it for Queensland over the years, he has done it for Australia before. He’s obviously in really good form, so I think that’s probably the way to go. I think he is quite experienced but the fact that he hasn’t done so for a while will be a cause for concern,” Ponting was quoted as saying by cricket.com. Not fielding at all is a matter of concern.

“It’s a concern he’s not there at all. We’ll have a better idea when he bats or bats at all in the second innings. I noticed that after getting hit, he came out after a break and you Can see he had a small (chest) guard on that area. I was a little worried about it as I had never seen him with a chest guard before.”

“Even if it’s just an injury, I think he’ll be fielding there, so there might be a little bit more to it than what we’re hearing,” Ponting said.

The visitors, who were all out for 147 in the first innings, had to bear the wrath of Warner as Australia posted a tight total of 425. However, he returned with a score of 220/2 in the second essay.
