“The central government has again rejected a proposal to set up a committee to probe oxygen deficiency deaths. On one hand, they pretend to ask states the figures for O2 deficiency deaths, On the other hand, they stop the inquiry committee (on this) in the end, what does the central government want to hide?” Sisodia wrote on Twitter.

With reference to the Delhi Deputy Chief Minister’s allegation, news agency ANI quoted central government sources as saying: “The statements made by the Deputy CM are misleading, to say the least. Neither the LG nor the Government of India has said That there should not be deaths due to lack of oxygen. Investigation should be done”.

“Which earlier stated on 6.7.2021 and reiterated again on 19.8.221 that as per SC directions a High Level Committee has been constituted where, apart from senior and eminent doctors, ACS (Health ), GNCTD is also a member, is already looking into the matter,” he said.

“It has submitted its interim report and is working on the final report. The LG as well as the Health Minister, Government of India have reiterated that the said committee should be allowed to carry out its work. A second committee for the same purpose has been established. The formation will only create confusion. The government has also been advised to follow the directions of the courts in this matter,” sources were quoted as saying by ANI.

Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia is also the nodal minister for COVID management in the national capital. His statement came after the Delhi government had again sent a file to the LG office seeking approval to set up a committee to probe the deaths due to oxygen crisis in the national capital.

In June this year, the Delhi government had constituted a four-member panel to probe the deaths due to lack of critical supplies. However, the committee was rejected by the LG.
