Army stopped BAT action on LoC in Keran, one killed – Kashmir Reader

Srinagar: A Pakistani civilian was killed by the army during an infiltration attempt in Kashmir in Kupwara district. An official gave this information on Sunday.
An AK-47 and a huge cache of ammunition were recovered from him, the official said.
“In complete violation of the ongoing ceasefire agreement between the two armies across the Line of Control, there was an attempt to infiltrate or BAT action (Border Action Team of Pakistan Army) in Keran sector of Kupwara district on January 1. The prompt action by the troops thwarted the attempt and the terrorist was eliminated,” the official said.
He said the person killed has been identified as Mohammad Shabbir Malik, a Pakistani national, who is armed with arms, ammunition and munitions.
“The site of the incident is located on the Pakistani side of the anti-infiltration barrier system, which is kept under surveillance by the Indian Army to effectively counter the infiltrators or any nefarious activity by the Pakistani Army,” the official said.
Giving details, the official said an armed infiltrator was found crossing the Line of Control at around 3 pm on Saturday from areas controlled by the Pakistan Army.
“Ambushes were made on the possible routes to be followed by the intruders and the movement was followed till 16.00 pm (4 pm). The ambush was carried out at the opportune time and the intruder was eliminated. The body of the slain intruder has been recovered along with a huge quantity of ammunition including one AK-47 and seven grenades.
He said the area was being monitored, denial of any exploitation of the prevailing inclement weather conditions in the region and operations were on.
He said the route adopted by the terrorist was similar to the route adopted during Operation Rangadori Bhai on April 4, 2020, in which five terrorists were killed.
The official said his identity was traced from the national identity card of the slain and the vaccination certificate issued by the Ministry of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination, Government of Pakistan.
“The baggage also included a picture of an intruder in army uniform wearing a tab bearing the name of Shabbir,” he said.
The official said this clearly establishes that Pakistan continues to sponsor cross-border terrorism.
“A hotline communication has been sent to the Pakistan Army asking them to take back the body of the slain person,” he said. PTI
