Srinagar:

The Army on Saturday dedicated the soft launch of Kashmir’s first floating settlement at the famous Dal Lake in Srinagar to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, a defense spokesman said.

Col Amron Mousavi, in a statement in Srinagar, said that Kachari Mohalla was commissioned as a sample tourist floating village by the General Officer Commanding of Chinar Corps, Lt Gen DP Pandey and Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Pandurang K Pol.

Lt Gen Pandey said that Dal Lake is the jewel in the crown of Kashmir and it is the responsibility of all citizens to keep it clean, especially those who have made the lake their home.

He appreciated the Divisional Commissioner, the Vice Chancellor of JK Lake Conservation and Management Authority and all the 15 government departments involved in supporting the initiative, the statement said.

Lt Gen Pandey said that the Kachari Mohalla model will be replicated in five more habitations and gradually spread to all 55 habitations.

The spokesperson said the residents of Kachri Mohalla appreciated the efforts of the Union Territory Government and the Army in highlighting this initiative and urged the Corps Commander and Divisional Commissioner to request Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to visit the village.
