According to historians, April Fool’s Day is 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called by the Council of Trent in 1563.

Therefore, the day includes such traditions as joking or telling practical jokes at each other and shouting “April Fools!”.

France was the first country to adopt and implement the new calendar. This development occurred when many refused to accept the change and continued to follow the Julian calendar, which, like the Hindu calendar, began with the vernal equinox around 1 April.

Before the introduction of the Gregorian calendar, the new year was celebrated at the end of March.

It took time for the general public to get to grips with the new calendar and as a result they continued to celebrate it from the last week of March to April 1.

In view of this, he became the subject of jokes and he came to be called ‘April Fool’.
