Claimed in 2019

Balveer Rani had contested the ticket for Phagwara by-election in 2019. BJP MLA Somprakash had contested the Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha elections from here. After the victory there, this assembly seat fell vacant. Congress gave ticket to Balwinder Dhaliwal, a former IAS officer close to Captain Amarinder Singh. Dhaliwal had resigned from the job to contest the elections. After this Balveer Rani went abroad.

Sodhi thanked the Congress high command for the appointment.

There was opposition to Sodhi in the past as well.

Balveer Raja Sodhi, husband of Balveer Rani Sodhi and former minister Joginder Singh Mann was a strong leader of Congress in Phagwara. There was a political tussle going on between the two in Phagwara. For the purpose of ending this, Congress got Balwinder Dhaliwal’s entry and gave him ticket, who managed to win by 26 thousand votes. Balveer Rani has been the head of District Congress Kapurthala, even at that time factionalism prevailed there.

Sodhi was also in support of Captain till he was denied ticket.

Dhaliwal close to Captain, so Congress is strengthening Balveer Rani
