Apple’s premium focus might be shifting to another segment with the next Vision

Apple Vision Pro launched this year has fared below its expectations so an affordable version of the headset could be the way to go.

Apple might ditch its ambitions with a premium mixed reality as reported by The Information. Amid the slowing sales of the Vision Pro headsets, the iPhone maker has been finding ways to reduce the cost of components and manufacture a more affordable Vision product with fewer features. The company aims to ship the rumoured cheaper vision headset before the end of 2025.

The report says Apple’s cheaper Vision headset reportedly codenamed N109, aims to keep the high-resolution screens that make the Vision Pro stand out. It also focuses on removing some features and making it “at least one-third lighter.”The Cupertino-based tech giant intends to price the cheaper Vision headset at a price that’s in line with a high-end iPhone. We have previously heard rumours about Apple targeting a price point between $1,500 and $2,500 (Rs 1,25,000 and Rs 2,08,600) for the affordable Vision Pro model, which could be called Vision headset.

The Cupertino-based company had originally planned to divide its Vision product into two models similar to the standard and Pro versions of its iPhone. So, it is possible that Apple might follow this trajectory after all.

The same report further states that Apple has struggled to reduce prices without sacrificing too much on features, so this cheaper headset is unlikely to show up in early 2025. The company is still putting effort into Vision Pro and plans to add a bunch of new features with VisionOS 2.

To boost the sale of the $3,500 (approximately Rs 2,91,000) device, which has been struggling with slower demand after initial enthusiasm, the company has announced that the Vision Pro headsets will be available in eight new countries, which includes Japan, Australia, Germany and China among others. There were also reports about the headset coming to the Indian market later this year but it is possible that Apple might have changed those plans, unless it feels there is a demand for the premium headset in the country.
