Apple’s AR/MR headset may face a delay in its unveiling, and may not be unveiled at the upcoming WWDC 2023, as previously speculated.

Apple’s highly anticipated AR/MR headset may face a delay in its unveiling, and may not be unveiled at the upcoming WWDC 2023 event scheduled for June, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo revealed that the tech giant is “not very optimistic about the AR/MR headset announcement” and is attempting to recreate the same level of impact as the iPhone’s launch. Due to this, the announcement can be postponed by 1-2 days. Mid to end of the month Q3 2023.

Kuo also highlighted that the expected yield of the product may be lower than anticipated “due to delays in mass production for assembly”. Kuo estimates that the expected shipments for this year will be between 200,000 and 300,000 units, well below the “market consensus of 500,000 units or more”.

Additionally, according to Kuo, the anticipated delay in announcing Apple’s AR/MR headset also stems from a number of other factors, including the current economic crisis – making it difficult to generate demand for the costlier products. And, hardware specifications were compromised to accommodate mass production requirements, such as weight reduction, ecosystem and applications readiness, and a higher expected selling price of $3,000–4,000 or more.

People are also skeptical about the release, with many questioning whether an AR/MR headset can really make an impact. ,The big question is whether it can be more of a prosumer device than an Oculus-like plaything – prescription glasses, TV, zoom terminal, HoloLens etc! Hope it’s not like the early Apple Watch, which was mostly useless as a limited battery/wireless pretty watch!” said one Twitter user.

Another Twitter user said, delayed or notNobody is buying a $4k VR headset.”

It remains to be seen whether Apple actually launches the much-hyped headset at WWDC 2023, and how it is received by the market.

Apple’s annual WWDC 2023 event is scheduled to take place from June 5 to June 9. The company has announced that the event will be held online and the opening day of the conference at Apple Park will be a unique experience for students and developers.
