Dalit political outfit Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) on Tuesday urged the Tamil Nadu government to set up more free NEET coaching centers in the state.
VCK floor leader in Tamil Nadu Assembly Sinthnai Selvan said the party opposes NEET but the exam is taking place, it is to provide more free NEET coaching centers to help poor and underprivileged students.
The MLA also said that while VCK was conducting free coaching classes for Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC), it does not have a free NEET training center as it is a costly affair and the party does not have the means for the same.
Sinthnai Selvan also said that the party had requested the Chief Minister to open more NEET coaching centers for the economically weaker students.
The Legislature Party leader of VCK said that there are many institutes in the state which are coming for NEET and charging exorbitant fees. He said that the government should take the initiative to open free NEET coaching centers to cater to the economically weaker students and the students from disadvantaged communities.
It is to be noted that VCK is part of the DMK alliance in Tamil Nadu and is strongly opposed to the NEET exam for admission to MBBS and other allied courses.
Speaking to IANS, Dr. Prabhakaran Krishnamurthy, an educationist and retired professor of a private medical college in Chennai, said: “The VCK is an ally of the ruling DMK and has been at the fore of the anti-NEET movements. However, the VCK leader’s statement is indicative of this. That the party has agreed that NEET will continue in the country and Tamil Nadu will be no exception.
