Another Explosion Near Amritsar’s Golden Temple; Bomb Squad, FSL Team At Spot

New Delhi: Another explosion occurred near the Golden Temple in Punjab’s Amritsar district on Monday, hours after a person was injured in a blast at the same spot on Sunday night. According to news agency ANI, the second blast took place around 6.30 am on the way to the Golden Temple near Saragarhi Sarai. However, the cause of the blast was not known and police said they were “verifying” the cause of the incident.

Though no injuries or damages were reported, police and forensic teams reached the spot to collect samples for examination.

Amritsar ADCP Mehtab Singh told reporters, “We are probing. The situation is normal here. Anti-sabotage, bomb disposal squad and FSL teams are here. One person has minor leg injury.” Golden Temple in Amritsar.


Mehtab Singh further said that a person suffered minor leg injury in the blast and the glasses of some buildings nearby were damaged. “After clarification, we can tell how it happened. Our teams are probing,” he added.

“I was doing my duty when I heard a big bang and saw heavy smoke,” news agency ANI quoted a sweeper who was at the spot during the incident as saying. According to reports, on May 6, a blast took place on the same Heritage Street near the Golden Temple at around 11:15 pm, injuring one person.

The frequent explosions at the same place have raised concerns about the security of the area. Heritage Street is a popular tourist destination, and the Golden Temple is a religious site for the Sikh community. Police force has been increased in the area and the investigation of the case is going on.

Appealing for calm, police officials said the situation was under control and there was no need to panic. A police officer told the media that the explosion probably occurred in the chimney of a restaurant.
