Punjab’s Senior Advocate Anmol Ratan Sidhu has taken over as the new Advocate General (AG) of the state. On Saturday, after the approval of CM Bhagwant Mann and the Governor, the Home Department issued its notification. After assuming the charge of AG, he said that he will take only Re 1 salary. The rest of the money will be donated to drug victims in Maqboolpura, Amritsar East. This area comes under the territory of AAP MLA Jeevanjot Kaur, who defeated Navjot Sidhu and Bikram Majithia.

Even before this, the name of Advocate Anmol Ratan Sidhu has been in the discussion. At that time Captain Amarinder Singh was removed. After this the then Advocate General Atul Nanda resigned. Then Charanjit Channi was made the CM. It was discussed at that time that he would be the new Advocate General of Punjab. However, his appointment could not materialize due to mutual discord between the Congress.

Patwalia had resigned
The Channi government of Punjab had appointed Advocate DS Patwalia as Advocate General on the insistence of state head Navjot Sidhu. He is believed to have an important role in the drugs case against Akali leader Bikram Majithia. However, the Congress lost badly in the recently held elections. After this, when the Aam Aadmi Party got power, then Advocate Patwalia resigned.
