Ankit Das, accused of Lakhimpur Kheri violence, sent to judicial custody till October 22

Lucknow: Hours after he surrendered before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at the crime branch office in Lakhimpur today, Ankit Das was arrested by the monitoring committee in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

According to the latest update, Ankit Das was produced before the magistrate where he has been sent to judicial custody till October 22.

Das was called by the police for questioning in connection with the October 3 violence in which eight people, including four farmers, were killed.

Ankit Das is the nephew of former Congress MP Akhilesh Das and is said to be close to the main accused Ashish Mishra. Ankit Das is said to be present in the car which was behind the SUV that knocked down the four farmers.

The police have so far arrested four people in this case and the fifth accused who has been taken into custody in this case is Ankit.

Police said that around 11 a.m. Das, accompanied by a team of lawyers, reached the reserved police line in Lakhimpur and reached the crime branch office located there.
