Anil Kapoor reveals he was under family and financial pressure to do ‘Judaai’ with Sridevi and Urmila Matondkar – Times of India

Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Urmila Matondkar starrer ‘Judaai’ has clocked 25 years of release today. The 1997 release earned a lot of praise for performances of its lead cast and its gripping narrative. ‘Judaai’ was a remake of the 1994 Telugu film ‘Subhalagnam’. Reminiscing fond memories of the entertainer, Anil Kapoor recently revealed how he had initially rejected the movie.

Revealing the reason for turning down the movie, Anil told a news portal that he kept saying no to ‘Judaai’ because he could not connect with my character. The actor added that he was facing a lot of pressure from his family and home production company to sign the film, since they were facing a monetary crunch after ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’ tanked at the box office. Anil Kapoor revealed that he was finally convinced to do the film after he watched Andy Garcia and Meg Ryan starrer ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’. He added that his intention to do ‘Judaai’ was only for the family. ‘Judaai’ was directed by Raj Kunwar and produced by Anil Kapoor’s father Surinder Kapoor, This family drama narrated the story of a greedy wife Kajal (Sridevi), who is attracted to wealth and convinces her husband Raj (Anil Kapoor) to marry Jahnvi (Urmila Matondkar).

On the work front, Anil Kapoor has an interesting line up of films. He will next be seen alongside Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani in ‘Jug Jugg Jeeyo’. He also has Ranbir Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra starrer ‘Animal’. Anil Kapoor has also signed up for a pivotal part in Siddharth Anand’s aerial action drama ‘Fighter’.
