New Delhi: The Center has directed the states and… Union Territory that growth measurement is necessary for all children Anganwadi Centers to achieve their status as ‘normal’, ‘underweight’, ‘severe acute malnutrition’, ‘moderate acute malnutrition’, ‘underdeveloped’ and ‘vain’.
In a letter to the Chief Secretaries of all the States/Union Territories, Ministry of Women and Child Development Said that at least 80 percent of children in the age group 0-6 should be measured every month.
It states, ‘Any child who is not measured in a particular month should compulsorily be measured in the next month.
The Ministry also asked the States/UTs to implement the Incentive Guidelines for Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs). POSHAN Campaign to promote regular growth monitoring of children, sustaining the use of ‘Poshan Tracker‘ and focus on service delivery during the baby’s first 1,000 days.
“Growth measurements – height/height and weight – are essential for all children to achieve their status” normal, underweightSam, I have, stunted and wasted,” the ministry said.
The revised guidelines, which have come into effect from November 1, also mandate pregnant women, lactating mothers and children up to two years to complete at least 60 percent of home visits, according to the home visit scheduler.
The ministry stressed that these norms are the basic minimum milestones associated with essential services for pregnant women, lactating mothers and children below two years of age that are expected to be delivered by Anganwadi workers.
“The achievement of these criteria will be determined through the Potion Tracker application,” it said.
The application was launched last year to strengthen nutrition delivery services and bring transparency. It was developed as a governance tool for real-time monitoring of nutritional outcomes.
In the revised guidelines, the Center also said that a report listing all Anganwadi workers and Anganwadi workers meeting the incentive criteria would be automatically generated through the Potion Tracker at the end of every month.
“ICDS Supervisor/CDPO will authorize payments to empaneled Anganwadi workers and Anganwadi workers by sending a signed report to the appropriate authority (as per state systems) for release of payment. Payment will be made through Direct. beneficiary transfer (DBT), preferably by the 15th of the following month.”
The revised guidelines also emphasize on opening of Anganwadi Centers (AWCs) for at least 21 days in a month.
Regarding the incentive amount, the ministry said that if the Anganwadi workers meet the above performance criteria, they will get Rs 500.
“Similarly, if AWH achieves the prescribed performance criteria, it will receive Rs 250,” it added.
