Andhra CM Reddy, Union Minister Shekhawat review Polavaram project, discuss rehabilitation of flood victims

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Friday visited the Polavaram project site to inspect the work and hold a review meeting with the officials involved in the project.

During the review meeting, the Chief Minister brought some key issues to the notice of the Union Minister and urged him to treat the entire project as a component and process the bills every fortnight instead of component-wise reimbursement. Reddy said that if this happens then the state government will have good cash flow and the work can go ahead rapidly.

Reddy also said that Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) requests for bills worth Rs 859.59 crore have been rejected and the designs relating to damages in lower cofferdams and ECRF areas have been finalized at the earliest to avoid delay in construction. form has been requested. Project.

Further, the Chief Minister highlighted the need to shift the Polavaram Project Authority office to Rajahmundry, which would ensure that structural inspection of the work is done from time to time. He asked the Union Minister to review the project once in every fortnight and solve the problems arising from time to time. Reddy also asked Shekhawat to consider paying compensation to the affected families through DBT.

Meanwhile, Shekhawat responded positively to the requests made by Reddy and immediately ordered his officers to prepare a specific plan on shifting the Polavaram flood victims to rehabilitation colonies. He also accepted the proposal of the Chief Minister to provide compensation through Direct Cash Transfer Scheme along with the proposal to shift the PPA office to Rajahmundry. He agreed to review the project work every fortnight for the next three months and directed the project officers to participate in the review meetings.

Shekhawat said that the design for burying the cut area in Lower Cofferdam, ECRF without any delay should be finalized immediately and a decision should be taken within 15 days with the help of the services of specialist firms in the country or outside. He said that a dashboard would be set up to see the timely progress of work.

Meanwhile, officials have asked Shekhawat to consider the construction cost estimate of Rs 55,548.87 crore for the Polavaram project as per the 2017-18 price index and requested to include drinking water component as part of the project.

Later, while addressing a BJP event, Shekhawat talked about the Russia-Ukraine crisis and said that the whole world is looking towards India for a solution. “When the US and Europe faced problems during the COVID-19 period, India was battling the crisis with patience and synergy, apart from producing and exporting vaccines to other countries,” he said.
