‘And the Torrid Run Continues’: Former Cricketer Slams KL Rahul For Another Failure

Last Update: February 19, 2023, 07:00 IST

Former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad has hit out at KL Rahul, whose poor form is troubling India in the all-important Border Gavaskar Trophy. India is up against Australia in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, where it again failed to live up to the billing. Responding to Australia’s total of 263, India started cautiously but Rahul was dismissed early on the second day.

“And the fast race continues. More to do with the stiffness of the management to keep up with a player who just hasn’t seen the part. No top-order batsman has played so many Tests with such a low average in at least the last 20 years of Indian cricket. His inclusion is…,” tweeted former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad, who replied to his old tweet criticizing KL Rahul, who was preferred over youngsters like Shubman Gill.

KL Rahul suffered yet another failure with the bat in India’s first innings on the second day of the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday.

After Australian skipper Pat Cummins survived two previous DRS calls, he was unlucky to ask for a review himself for the third time.

Nathan Lyon tosses the ball on middle as it turns slightly and Rahul moves to defend but his bat gets stuck next to the pads. The Australian spinner trapped the Indian opener in front of the wickets as umpire Nitin Menon took no time in raising his finger but Rahul decided to review immediately. The third umpire checked the inside edge of the bat but there was nothing on the ultra edge. The projection showed that the ball would not have hit the leg stump as Rahul was dismissed for 17 off 41 balls.

Earlier on Day 1, KL Rahul took a brilliant catch to dismiss Usman Khawaja as Ravindra Jadeja went for his 250th Test wicket.
