Jaya Bachchan had once opened up about Amitabh Bachchan’s bond with Aishwarya Rai.
Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai shared a close bond even before she married his son, actor Abhishek Bachchan. The legendary star worked with the actress in a few films, including Mohabbatein and Hum Kisise Kum Nahin. So when Aishwarya got married into the family, Amitabh couldn’t see her as a daughter-in-law. Instead, Jaya Bachchan once revealed, Big B welcomed her into the family as a daughter.
Speaking with Karan Johar on Koffee With Karan, Jaya Bachchan said, “Whenever he sees her, he becomes happy. He never saw Aishwarya as a daughter-in-law. He always saw Aishwarya as a daughter. Amitji, the minute he sees her, it’s like he’s looking at Shweta coming home. His eyes light up. She’ll fill the vacuum that Shweta left.”
In another episode of the show, Abhishek praised the Bachchan ladies for making Aishwarya feel at home. “Yeah, I think credit has to be given entirely to the girls. I have very little to do with it. What works also is that Maa and her (Aishwarya) are very close. They talk about everything. When a woman first comes to her husband’s house, she feels a bit out of place, evidently and obviously. I think the only person who can truly fill that void is her mother-in-law,” he said.
Aishwarya married Abhishek in 2007. They welcomed their daughter Aaradhya Bachchan in 2011. While the couple has kept their relationship away from the spotlight, restricting their PDA to posts on each others’ birthdays and their wedding anniversary, eyebrows raised when Aishwarya was recently seen posing alone on the red carpet at the Ambani wedding while Abhishek joined his family.
Abhishek had everyone’s attention when he ‘liked’ a post on divorce. Later, it was revealed that one of the writers of the post was Abhishek and Aishwarya’s friend and the actor was only supporting his friend. Meanwhile, immediately after the Ambani wedding, Aishwarya flew out of Mumbai with her daughter. They were seen holidaying in New York. Photos and videos of Aishwarya and Aaradhya during their trip surfaced. While in one picture, Aishwarya was seen posing with a fan, in another Aaradhya joined her mom as they posed with a few flight attendants.
