Amit Shah to hold meeting with all Chief Ministers, DGPs, Chief Secretaries of Northeast in Shillong on July 24

Union Home Minister Amit Shah On July 24, a meeting of all Chief Ministers, Chief Secretaries and DGPs of North Eastern states will be held during which they are expected to take stock of the law and order situation and the COVID-19 situation in the region. During the two-day visit on July 24-25, the Home Minister will also inaugurate a cryogenic oxygen plant, visit the Assam Rifles headquarters in Shillong and attend an event in Guwahati.

A Home Ministry official said that the Home Minister will preside over a meeting of Chief Ministers, Chief Secretaries and DGPs of all the North Eastern States in Shillong on Saturday. Shah is expected to take stock of the law and order situation and the COVID-19 situation there. The meeting will be held at the North Eastern Space Applications Center (NESAC) where he will also review the functioning of the Space Science and Technology Center in the region.

Union Minister of Science and Technology and Space Jitendra Singh and Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) G Kishan Reddy will also accompany the Home Minister during the visit. NESAC, a joint initiative of the Department of Space (DoS) and the North Eastern Council (NEC), helps enhance the development process in the region by providing advanced space technology support.

Being the Chairman of the NEC, the Union Home Minister is also the President of the NESAC society. Indian Space Research Organization chairman and Department of Space secretary K Sivan, who is also the chairman of the NESAC Governing Council, may also attend.

The Home Minister is expected to take stock of the work plan and progress of works of NESAC as envisaged for all North Eastern States. Shah had presided over the meeting of NESAC during his last visit to Shillong and gave some action plans for implementation. Officials said the home minister is expected to review the progress of the works.

NESAC is located at picturesque Umiam, about 20 km from Shillong. It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities in the areas of remote sensing and geographic information systems, disaster management, satellite communications and space and atmospheric science research. The Center has rendered more than 20 years of dedicated service to eight states of the North Eastern Region using space science and technology.

The major objectives of NESAC are: To provide an operational remote sensing and geographic information system assisted natural resource information base to support activities on development, natural resource management and infrastructure planning in the region. It provides operational satellite communications application services in the field in education, health care, disaster management support and developmental communications.

Other objectives include carrying out research in space and atmospheric sciences and establishing an instrumentation hub and networking with various academic institutions in the region, enabling single window delivery of all possible location based support for disaster management and a regional level infrastructure. installation is included.
