Amit Shah talks to Himanta Sarma on Assam boat accident, assures help from Center

According to the Assam Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on phone on Wednesday and promised full support to the state government in carrying out the rescue operation after a boat accident in Jorhat. .

He also said that apart from central agencies like the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the army would also be pressed into action if the situation so demands.

“Sad to learn about the tragic boat accident in Assam. Spoke to Chief Minister Shri @himantabiswa, State Administration is doing everything possible to save people. We are continuously monitoring the situation. Also Central Govt. Assured of full support,” Shah had earlier tweeted.

Biswa expressed his gratitude to the Union Minister for providing assistance.

“Adarnia HM Mr @AmitShah kindly called to inquire about the accident at Nimti Ghat and got an update on the rescue operations and the status of the people rescued so far. He said that the central government to give all possible help. Ready. Grateful for them”, tweeted Biswa.

The Chief Minister also informed that one woman died, while at least 42 people have been rescued and the capsized boat is located 1.5 km away from the spot.

“Two boats collided, one of them capsized. As of now, it is difficult to ascertain the number of people on board. However, 42 people were rescued and one woman died. 4 people reported missing. But the full report will come in 2.-3 hours,” Sarma said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the Chief Minister of Assam and inquired about the boat accident near Nimati Ghat in Jorhat.

The CMO said that expressing deep concern over the accident, the Prime Minister assured all possible help from the Center in the rescue operation and said that he is with the people of Assam in this hour of crisis.
