There were reports for a long time that a biopic of veteran singer Kishore Kumar was about to be made. However, there was no update on the same recently. It was said that Anurag Basu will be making the film, and Ranbir Kapoor will play the role of Kishore Kumar. Now, the singer’s son Amit Kumar has shared an update.
In an interview with ETimes, Amit Kumar shared a good and bad news. The good news is that the audience will actually get to see the Kishore Kumar biopic. But the bad news is that Anurag Basu and Ranbir Kapoor will no longer be associated with the project.
When Madhubala’s biopic was brought in question, he revealed it. Asked if a biopic should be made on actress Madhubala, Amit Kumar said, “Why not? Biopic toh sab ka bana hai aaj koi (It is quite common to be a biopic these days). We are doing a biopic on our father too.” When further probed whether it would be with Anurag Basu and Ranbir Kapoor, as reported earlier, he said, “No, now we will produce it ourselves. We have started writing it.”
She also spoke about Kishore Kumar’s four marriages and said, “I never asked him. This was his personal life. He always wanted a family. He was a family man. It was just that he was misunderstood. The day my parents got divorced, they buried their Morris Minor car in this bungalow. He bought it with my mother after his first film as a hero, Andolan. That was Kishore Kumar!”
Amit Kumar is the son of Kishore Kumar and his first wife, Bengali actress Ruma Guha Thakurta. They were married between 1950-58. After this Kishore Kumar married Madhubala, followed by Yogita Bali and Leena Chandavarkar.
