Amid speculations of a change of leadership in Chhattisgarh, the Congress has shown confidence by appointing state Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel as the party’s senior observer for the February 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

In a press release issued by the grand old party on Saturday, the Congress said, “…Congress President has appointed Shri Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Minister, Chhattisgarh as Senior Observer of AICC for the upcoming Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh with immediate effect. has done.”

Baghel was also an observer of the Assam Assembly elections held in March. By winning a total of 50 seats, the Congress lost the election to the BJP with a majority of 75 seats and became the first non-Congress alliance in the state to win twice in a row. However, since the 2016 election, the Congress has got 26 seats.

Tension has prevailed within the Chhattisgarh Congress for the past few days, soon after the change of guard in Punjab, which took over as the new chief minister following the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh.

The demand for a guard of guard came to the fore in Chhattisgarh after Baghel completed two and a half years as chief minister in June 2021.
