The Center has introduced a new category of electronic visas – ‘e-emergency ex-variety visas’ – to fast-track applications for entry into India when the situation in Afghanistan worsens.

Afghanistan has been devastated since the Taliban captured Kabul and President Ashraf Ghani fled the country. People are trying desperately to get out of the country. Videos on social media showed a crowd running next to a US military transport plane as it is about to take off, with some people trying to cling to its sides. People were also seen falling from the plane on the roofs.

Amidst the worrying situation, India and many other countries have evacuated their embassies. A C-17 aircraft of the Indian Air Force took off from Kabul late Monday evening with over 120 Indian officers. Sources said that the employees were safely shifted to safe areas of the airport.

With government forces collapsing without the support of the US military, the Taliban have sparked lightning in the country, which is finalizing its withdrawal in alignment with the August 31 deadline set by President Joe Biden.

The imminent takeover of the rebels created fear and panic in Kabul among residents fearful of the group’s radical brand of Islam, which it imposed during its 1996–2001 rule.

News18 spoke to a woman who has been living with her husband and child for her treatment in Delhi since November 2020. The Taliban took her eyes out when she was two months pregnant.

External Affairs Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said on Monday that the situation in Afghanistan is being continuously monitored at a high level and the suspension of commercial operations at Kabul airport has stalled India’s repatriation efforts.
