Ambala: Crime Investigation Agency (CIA)-1 has arrested two people. Ambala Police A case of vandalism with the statue of Jesus Christ in the Holy Redeemer Church on Christmas busted.
Ambala Superintendent of Police (SP) Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said that the accused have been identified as Ravinder Singh (27) and Sandeep Kumar (28), residents of Vashist Nagar.
They will be produced in the district court on Wednesday for remand to ascertain the motive behind the act.
“During investigation, our teams confiscated the CCTV camera footage from the church and did a thorough analysis. Our cyber and mobile forensic teams also collected evidence. We also investigated through our informers after which the police arrested both the accused,” the SP said.
“As per our verification, both the accused have no criminal record. Tech graduate Sandeep Kumar is posted in PWD, while Ravinder has done 10+2 and has worked in various corporate and pharmacy companies,” said the official.
When asked about the motive behind the desecration, SP Ambala said, “They revealed that Sandeep had come to Ravinder’s house on a two-wheeler and the two had planned to go to church (on Christmas day). Both went to church at around 6 pm (Christmas) to see the celebrations. Then he consumed alcohol. They committed the crime between 12.30 am and 1.30 pm and smashed the idol with some ‘stones’. Investigation is being done from every angle.”
