Amazon’s Clubhouse Rival App Is Here and It’s Different: All You Need to Know

Amazon is entering the live audio space this week with its new app, called Amp, but the company is taking a different direction than either Clubhouse or the Twitter space.

Amp is a free app that anyone can use, and you don’t need to sign up anywhere to use the service. Just sign in and start using, unlike most Amazon services, which only work if you have a Prime subscription. And since Amazon has its own music service, Amp uses it to good effect, allowing people to stream “millions of licensed songs” and other record labels.

And when you compare AMP to Space and Clubhouse the difference is clear. While the latter two focused on live conversations with a larger group, Amp is giving you a mix of live chats that includes the ability to stream music.

It looks like Amazon is positioning the app as a radio-like service, which is interesting in an era where streaming music has replaced the need to switch to traditional radio channels. So, essentially this app gives each of us a chance to become a Radio Jockey (RJ) without moving an inch from our living room.

To take things up a notch, Amazon is using its influence and perhaps even using music labels to host live shows featuring celebrities, to build up hype for the amp and add to it. Marketing push can be given.

The Amazon Amp app comes to iOS now.

Amazon Amp is limiting its access to iOS users for now, and even access for them is in beta mode, so you’ll have to go through a waiting list to try out the services available. The company isn’t talking about the monetization aspect of the platform right now, which is understandable.

And it’s focused on trying out the Amp in the US for starters, so other countries are already on waiting lists.

Also, AMP still doesn’t have a clear launch roadmap, so Android and web users may have to wait longer.
