Drone delivery is now a reality in the US

Some parts of the United States are now able to get their deliveries done online using drones.

Amazon has started delivering orders by drone in the US states of California and Texas with the aim of flying packages to customers’ homes within an hour.

Recently, customers in Lockford, California, and College Station, Texas, received a small number of parcels delivered by drone using the company’s ‘Amazon Prime Air’ drone service, The Verge reports.

“Our objective is to safely introduce our drones into the skies. We are starting in these communities and will gradually expand deliveries to more customers over time,” said Natalie Banke, spokeswoman for Amazon Air, in a statement.

In 2020, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted ‘Part 135’ approval to the company to send packages by drone.

Customers living in Lockford and College Station are eligible to sign up and place orders, while Amazon will notify customers who live elsewhere when drone delivery is available in their area.

The report states that after placing an order, customers will receive tracking information and an estimated delivery time when they can expect the drone to deliver the package.
