Sources said that the world’s largest online retailer Amazon has laid off around 500 employees across various verticals in India. This latest round of layoffs is one of several that were announced by CEO Andy Jassy in March, affecting about 9,000 employees.

People familiar with the situation said the process is ongoing and that employees in the web services, human resources and support departments are being furloughed.

According to sources, some of the affected employees are employed by Amazon’s global teams based in India.

Announcing the 9,000 job cuts, JC said the decision was based on ongoing priority analysis and economic uncertainty in an online note to employees.

Amazon spent a significant part of last year adjusting to a significant slowdown in e-commerce growth as customers returned to their pre-pandemic habits.

Other big tech companies are downsizing, including Meta and Google. Amazon is one of them.

Following the global slump in tech stocks, the company first announced in January that it would lay off around 18,000 employees.

According to sources, Amazon’s e-commerce business in India has seen slow growth, highlighting the tough market conditions in the country.

As part of its massive layoffs in April, Amazon.com Inc. laid off approximately 100 video game division employees, affecting employees at Prime Gaming, Game Growth, and the company’s San Diego studio.

Tens of thousands of people have lost their jobs over the past six months as a result of massive layoffs at global tech giants. Companies such as Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Meta and Twitter have recently laid off employees or stopped hiring due to slowing consumer spending, high interest rates and rising global inflation.
