Reportedly, the email has asked employees to meet with the leadership team for more clarity and has promised to offer 5 months of severance pay.

“Between the reductions we announced in November and the ones we are sharing today, we plan to eliminate just over 18,000 roles. Several teams are affected; However, the majority of roles are in our Amazon Stores and PXT organizations,” the blog link to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said.

As of December 31, 2021, Amazon employs approximately 16,08,000 full-time and part-time employees.

In November, Amazon decided to eliminate several positions in the devices and books businesses, and also announced an offer of voluntary reductions to some employees in its People, Experience and Technology (PXT) organization.
