Amarnath Yatra 2023The Amarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended for the third consecutive day till further notice due to inclement weather on Sunday.

Sunday was the third day of suspension of the holy pilgrimage. It was suspended on Friday as well as on Saturday.

Earlier on Saturday, hundreds of vehicles were stranded in Udhampur due to the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway due to bad weather.

The 250-km-long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir to the rest of the country, while the Mughal Road connects the town of Bufliaz in Poonch district of Jammu to Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Over 80,000 pilgrims have visited the holy cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas since the start of the yatra on July 1. Meanwhile, the 62-day pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave, which is the abode of Lord Shiva, will conclude on August 31.
