The Amarnath Yatra resumed from the Jammu base camp after being suspended for three days due to the closure of the Jammu-Kashmir National Highway for repairs in the Ramban section. He said a fresh batch of pilgrims was allowed to proceed towards Kashmir for onward journey to the Amarnath cave shrine as the highway, which was damaged at several places due to incessant rains, was opened.
Amarnath Yatris usually leave from Jammu every day between 3.45 am to 4.30 am. Around 15,000 pilgrims were stuck in Jammu and other places due to the suspension of the yatra. Officials said people stranded in Qazigund were also allowed to move towards Jammu. Due to the suspension of the yatra, around 8,000 pilgrims were stranded in Jammu, especially at the Bhagwati Nagar base camp.
Similarly, around 6,000 pilgrims were stranded at Chandrakot base camp in Ramban district. Around 2,000 pilgrims were stranded in the Kathua and Samba camps. The 62-day annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine, located at an altitude of 3,888 meters in the south Kashmir Himalayas, began on July 1. A total of 43,833 pilgrims have left Jammu base camp for the cave shrine in the seven days since June 30. batch. The pilgrimage is scheduled to end on August 31.
