A court here sent Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair to 14-day judicial custody in a case registered for allegedly promoting enmity. Assistant Prosecution Officer Awadhesh Yadav said that Zubair was produced in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Mohammadi through video conferencing.
The prosecution had sought police custody, to which Zubair’s lawyer replied. Yadav said the court sent him to 14-day judicial custody. He said the next hearing on his police custody plea has now been fixed for July 13.
The Lakhimpur Kheri police had issued a warrant against Zubair to appear in court in connection with an FIR registered for promoting enmity in 2021. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Arun Kumar Singh had told PTI.
