ALMA, Cannes (WIBW) – It’s a celebration of over a century in the making of one very special woman in ALMA. That is why it is special that on January 13, the city has been named in his honor.
Sherrill Thawe said the idea started with a simple request for a birthday card but turned into a celebration across town.
Evelyn Zexor was born on 13 January 1920 in Alma, a Thursday on the occasion of her 102nd birthday.
“She looks almost 80, I mean you’d never guess the way she looks, acts, talks, she’s 102,” said local owner of Alma Bakery, Janet Rohleder.
The community came together to mark the occasion with a birthday parade.
Evelyn’s first stop was the church she was baptized in as a child and where she later married. She received a special surprise from the students of St John’s Lutheran School, who sang her happy birthday and decorated the van she was in.
Subsequently, the van receives an escort by the Wabouncy County Sheriff’s Office to the city of Alma. He traveled to Main Street where several local businesses are participating in Evelyn Zexor Day.
El Coral Mexican Restaurant was selling the tacos for $1.02 and Alma Bakery and Sweet Shoppe had cinnamon rolls for $1.02.
“It’s all about Evelyn today,” Rohleder said, “she’s a special woman and we’ve sold a lot of cinnamon rolls.”
Evelyn’s friends said it was a perfect example of her influence.
Thave said, “She always has a smile on her face, she never says a harsh word about anyone, she is just a very kind, loving, beautiful person.”
When asked, Evelyn said that it is difficult to put into words how much it means to her.
“I don’t know how to explain it, it’s just exciting,” said Zexor, “I can’t believe they would do that for me.”
Evelyn loves gardening and still takes care of herself. He also loves receiving cards and has got 83 on his birthday so far this year.
