Allu Arjun: I definitely want to do a straight Hindi film, it will prove to be a milestone in my career

Known as ‘Bunny’, ‘Stylish Star’ and now ‘Icon Star’, Allu Arjun is one of the biggest stars of Indian cinema. The trailer of Pushpa: The Rise Part 1 was released earlier this month, and visuals-wise, the film promises to be a thrilling action-thriller. It is also the actor’s first pan-India release. The film is based on the backdrop of red sandalwood and how billions are smuggled abroad from the forests of Seshachalam in Andhra Pradesh.

One of the biggest and most awaited releases of Arjun’s career, the film which is slated to release on December 17 is facing stiff competition as the Hollywood superhero film Spider-Man: No Way Home, which released today, has already received a huge following. Advance booking has been received. Talking about the competition, the actor said that it was more important for him to bring the audience back to the theatres.

“The culture of watching movies in cinemas has diminished due to the pandemic. I am not just watching my film Pushpa. I believe that Spider-Man should bring audiences back to theaters and that’s how our film should aim to bring fans back to theatres. It’s all about celebrating the cinemas. Cinema should win and not just Indian cinema, but world cinema as a whole should win. Next week we have Ranveer Singh and director Kabir Khan starrer 83 releasing, and I wish them all the best and hope they get their audience back too. I also want to take advantage of this opportunity and congratulate the team of Sooryavanshi for instilling confidence in the audience.”

While Pushpa: The Rise Part 1 launched pan-India, Arjun expressed that while grateful to be able to make a mark in the Telugu industry, he is itching to broaden his horizons and do a pure Hindi film. Huh. “I love Hindi cinema. I grew up watching it. I definitely want to do a straight Hindi film. This will be a landmark point in my career and I want to make the best possible choice for it. There have been some offers but nothing really interesting or exciting has come up. Also people who come to me say that they have to come up with something concrete. Once everything is fine, I will try to plan and do something bigger.”

Talking about Hindi films, the actor says that one of his biggest inspirations is megastar Amitabh Bachchan. “I think I am most inspired by megastar Amitabh Bachchan. I absolutely adore his filmography during such a long period of his career. I grew up watching his movies, his years in my growing up I have had a huge impact. Even today, he is acting in such great films, he inspires with his work.”

Pushpa was earlier supposed to do one part, but later she decided to do it in two parts. Arjun says that it was the material he had on hand that called for splitting the film into two parts. “When director Sukumar narrated the script, it was a four-hour film. So I asked him how we would make it into a three-hour film, and he said we would compress it somehow. But when we started shooting, it got worse. That’s when we realized that the film cannot be made in one part alone. “It won’t be fun to talk about it right now. Let the first part release and let the audience see and understand the ending after which we will talk about the second part.”

The film was shot during the pandemic, which according to South Star was a big challenge. “It was one of the toughest films to shoot. We were shooting in a forest with around 500 people. The logistics including providing food, accommodation and keeping cleanliness and following all protocols were really tough. I have always said that shooting for this film is equivalent to shooting for four films.”
