PRAYAGRAJ: The Allahabad High Court has agreed to take up a PIL, which was earlier dismissed in default, seeking recognition of Mathura Shahi Idgah mosque site As Krishna Janmabhoomi,
This petition was filed by advocate Mahek Maheshwari. The petition was dismissed on January 19, 2021 due to the absence of the petitioner, who was appearing in person and not being represented by any counsel. The application for restoration of the petition was filed soon after the dismissal of the petition and was recently allowed by the court.
In an order dated February 17, a division bench of Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Prakash Padia restored the petition on the ground that the application for reinstatement was filed immediately after the default was dismissed without any delay. The matter has been listed for further hearing on July 25.
A writ petition was filed in the High Court for the removal of the Shahi Idgah Masjid, allegedly built on the Krishna Janmabhoomi. The petitioner had prayed that the temple land should be handed over to the Hindus and a proper trust should be formed for them. In the interim, the petition has sought permission for Hindus to worship in the mosque on certain days in a week and on Janmashtami days till the disposal of the petition.
