All adults in the UK will now be able to get a third Covid jab, a government scientific advisory body said on Monday, amid Omicron fears.

The government body said they were expanding booster shots to adults aged 18 to 39, AFP reported.

As fear mounts about a new COVID variant now known as Omicron, doctors in South Africa have noticed the first symptoms of this new and deadly strain that is different from the Delta one.

Although not yet officially listed by the World Health Organization (WHO), patients infected with this strain show extreme fatigue among other noticeable symptoms.

According to Angelique Coetzee, chairperson of the South African Medical Association, “It is not limited to any age group. Younger patients also show extreme fatigue.”

Coetzee said in media reports that there was also no major drop in oxygen saturation levels.

According to the doctor, Omicron patients also reported mild muscle pain, sore throat and dry cough.

Most of the patients Coetzee treated were men, under the age of 40, and about half of them were also vaccinated.

South African doctors, however, said in a ray of hope that most patients with the Omicron strain have recovered without hospitalization.
