Reports suggest that Sigourney Weaver is in discussions to join The Mandalorian & Grogu, alongside Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin.
Veteran actress Sigourney Weaver is said to be in talks to join the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu which will be the first Star Wars movie to go into production since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Lucasfilm recently confirmed a standalone spinoff titled The Mandalorian & Grogu, directed by Jon Favreau. While details about additional cast members are kept under wraps, reports suggest that Oscar-nominated actress Sigourney Weaver, known for her work in Alien and Ghostbusters, is in discussions to join Favreau’s Star Wars movie. If finalized, Weaver would be the first artist confirmed alongside Pascal in the project. However, whether familiar faces like Katee Sackhoff or Emily Swallow will also make an appearance remains a mystery for now.
Weaver’s involvement in the upcoming spinoff was first reported by The InSneider newsletter. Directed by Favreau, the movie will be produced by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni. The upcoming project, which is set to go on floors in the coming months, will be the first Star Wars film to enter the production stage since Episode 9, The Rise of Skywalker was released in 2019. The exact timeline of the film in the saga remains unknown, as The Mandalorian has already aired three seasons and the fourth season is in development alongside other spinoff projects.
In an earlier statement, Jon Favreau speaking about the movie said, “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
In The Mandalorian, Pedro Pascal plays a wanderer going across the galaxy while battling with the Empire and protecting the cute green creature, Grogu from hunters. Throughout the three seasons, the series featured cameos from iconic characters from the Star Wars universe. Among the memorable appearances include R2D2, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano and Katee Sackhoff as Bo Katan Kryze and Boba Fett.
In addition to The Mandalorian movie and the fourth season of the Disney Plus series, the Star Wars universe is expanding with several exciting projects. Ms Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is on board to direct a New Jedi Order movie, with Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey. Meanwhile, Dave Filoni is writing a New Republic movie and James Mangold, known for Logan, is directing a Dawn of the Jedi film. Fans can also look forward to the second seasons of Andor and Ahsoka, as well as the debut of the new series The Acolyte later this year.
