There’s been a trend of fans calling out celebrities who haven’t spoken up enough on Israel’s attacks on Gaza. Alia Bhatt has found herself on the list now.

Alia Bhatt is known for her impeccable fashion sense, and she once again turned heads at this year’s Met Gala. Dressed in a stunning saree by Sabyasachi, she received loud cheers from the crowd and excited shouts from paparazzi. Fans couldn’t get enough of her glamorous look either. But now, her increasing fame seems to have put her on the ‘Blockout 2024 list’. There’s a controversy brewing because she’s been criticised for staying silent about the situation in Gaza.

In the past few months, there’s been a growing trend of fans calling out celebrities who haven’t spoken up enough on Israel’s attacks on Gaza. After the Met Gala, this trend turned into a full-blown movement, with people sharing their lists of blocked celebrities on platforms like X. The boycott or blocking campaign aims to push these famous people to use their big platforms to promote calls for peace.

The list of celebrity blocklist consists of popular names such as Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Kylie Jenner, Zendaya, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Khloe Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, Demi Lovato, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Kanye West, Katy Perry, Zac Efron, Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas, Kevin Jonas, Justin Timberlake and many others.

For months, people have been asking celebrities to speak up for a Gaza ceasefire on social media. The Met Gala, with its A-list attendees, became a target for frustration, with some comparing it to ‘Hunger Games’.

Meanwhile, this was Alia’s second appearance at the Met Gala. During her red carpet interview with Vogue, Alia expressed her excitement to represent India in a saree. “I’m feeling great. I’m feeling very excited. Months of preparation, lots of conversations and all builds up to this one moment. It’s so surreal but it’s also very special. It’s my second time at the Met, but my first time wearing a saree. When I thought of the dress code, ‘Garden of Time’, I felt it needed something timeless and there’s nothing timeless than a saree,” Alia told Vogue.

Meanwhile, on the film front, Alia will soon be seen in Jigra. The film is directed by Vasan Bala and jointly produced by Alia and Karan Johar. She has also signed Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
