Alastair Cook lauded Kohli for doing a great job as India’s red-ball captain and making the team a world-beating team.

In a major development, Virat Kohli on Saturday announced that he will step down as India’s Test captain, a day after his team’s 1-2 series loss to South Africa in Cape Town. The 33-year-old went on to become the most successful Test captain in Indian cricket history. He led the Indian cricket team in 63 matches in which he emerged victorious in 40.

Earlier, last year, Kohli had relinquished the T20I captaincy after the ICC T20 World Cup and was later sacked as the ODI captain after the national selectors wanted him to lead the team in the white-ball format. Have only one captain. The BCCI has replaced Rohit Sharma in the ODIs. However, no one expected Kohli to step down as the Test captaincy at this juncture as his decision shook the cricketing world. Former cricketers and fans reacted on social media after Kohli stepped down as Test captain.

Firstly, former England captain Sir Alastair Cook reacted to Kohli’s dismissal. The veteran cricketer, writing in his column for The Times, concurred with a Test captain’s statement from the Indian cricketer, which required a lot of patience and hard work. He also lauded Kohli for doing a great job as India’s red-ball captain and making the team a world-beating team. Emphasizing how his (Kohli’s) attitude has dented the team, Cook wrote that India may have lost the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June “but they are at No. 1”. And much of that hard-edged attitude is born out of him.

The 37-year-old said, “If ever a team has been molded by its captain, it is India’s side.”

Things have not gone down well between the 99-Test legend and the BCCI, with both sides issuing conflicting statements in the wake of Kohli’s removal as Team India’s ODI captain. There were reports that Indian selectors may sack Kohli if they lose the Test series in South Africa. However, the veteran of 99 Tests overtook the board and opted to resign himself.
